With Austrian funding, UNIDO to help establish Caribbean Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency | CARICOM Today
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), the operational unit of Austrian Development Cooperation, today signed a 1.3 million Euro funding agreement for the establishment of the Caribbean Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE). The signing ceremony was also attended by representatives of the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Sustainable Energy and Climate Resilience Initiative – SIDS DOCK, and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). The signing is in follow up to the Memorandum of Understanding signed on 17 March 2014, by UNIDO, the Government of Austria and SIDS DOCK, to assist SIDS in the Caribbean, Pacific, Africa and Indian Ocean with the establishment of regional sustainable energy centers. The network was officially launched at the UN Third International Conference on SIDS in Samoa, in September 2014. The establishment of CCREEE was recently endorsed by the Ministerial Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) of CARICOM.
