Colombia suspends peace talks with guerrillas after kidnapping

For the first time in more than two years, Colombia suspended peace talks with the country’s largest rebel group after a general and two companions were kidnapped in the northwestern part of the country. President Juan Manuel Santos said the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) guerrillas were responsible for Sunday’s kidnapping of Brigadier General Rubén Alzate Mora, soldier Jorge Rodríguez Contreras and a lawyer, Gloria Urrego, in the village of Las Mercedes in the department of Chocó.
